Morning Star was to be a utopia of the nongoverned, a nonhierarchical community, a place that sought to exist far beyond the domain of patriarchs and landlords as well as of extant social and material norms. (…) Following a mention of the “Morning Star Colonists” in “The Hippies: The Philosophy of a Subculture,” Time’s famous cover story of July 7, 1967, the 31.7-acre property quickly attracted large numbers of residents and visitors and with them the attention (and wrath) of Sonoma Country officials. (…) In late June 1967, Gottlieb was charged with operating an organized camp in violation of State public health regulations. The San Francisco Chronicle recounted that, upon being arrested, he had wryly announced, “If they find any evidence of organization here, I wish they would show it to me.”

„Morning Star” miała być utopią nierządzonych, niehierarchiczną społecznością, miejscem, które próbuje egzystować z dala od domen patriarchów i właścicieli nieruchomości, a także istniejących norm społecznych i materialnych. (…) Po wzmiance dotyczącej „kolonistów z Morning Star” w „Hipisach: Filozofii subkultury”, okładkowym artykule z magazynu „Time” z 7 lipca 1967 roku, działka o wielkości 31,7 akrów szybko przyciągnęła dużą liczbę mieszkańców i gości, a wraz z nimi także uwagę (i gniew) urzędników Sonoma Country. (...) Pod koniec czerwca 1967 Gottliebowi postawiono zarzuty prowadzenia zorganizowanego obozu z naruszeniem przepisów stanowych o zdrowiu publicznym. „The San Francisco Chronicle” relacjonował, że podczas aresztowania, [Gottlieb] gorzko oświadczył: „Jeśli znajdą tutaj jakiekolwiek dowody organizacji, chcę, żeby mi je zaprezentowali”.
